Last week, I had the monthly pleasure
of being around a group of women dedicated to raising disciples. These
gals get it, but don't always get it right. That's why I love them.
They
get how important their roles are as moms, wives, and stewards of God.
They make time to read, reflect on, and fellowship around God's word.
But they mess up, just like me. They feel bad when they do, and they
call upon the Holy Spirit for strength to hit the reset button and give
it another go.
By the end of the evening, I was tired, physically. But listening to our special guest who traveled hours just
to speak words of encouragement from the Book that matters was like saline dripping into a
dehydrated body. Pouring new life into what can often be an exhausting
blessing. By the way, being a mom IS a blessing. Duh, I know. But we
didn't come up with this concept.
"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are int he hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."
Psalm 127: 3-5
Two
videos were shared with us that evening. One, a bit of a comic relief,
and the other, a message every mom with a child under her roof who needs
to hear.
Let's laugh first...
Now let's focus ...
We
cannot raise disciples by ourselves. And I am so thankful to have
Christ as my captain in this assignment, and one heck of a village
behind me supporting, challenging, encouraging, and inspiring me every
step of the way. You all know who you are.
After all, it takes a heck of a lot of
people to support you saying no 50+ times a day, redirecting during
misbehavior, wiping up poop, standing firm when faced with tear-filled
baby faces, and serving 15+ hours a day when you are ready to throw in
the towel. Cheers to all you moms out there never giving up. You are on a
mission - a disciple-raising mission. But you are NOT, and never will
be alone.
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6
